Jackson Family Updates

Michael Jackson hasn’t even been laid to rest yet and it’s an all out circus with his legal reps and family.  Here’s what’s happening now:

  • Michael’s will  has been looked at and according to the Wall Street Journal
, his 2002 will says mother Katherine should indeed get custody of his kids.  The will divides his estate amongst his family members and charities, but absolutely nothing to father Joe Jackson.
  • Debbie Rowe may contest Katherine’s guardianship as Debbie is believed to be the biological mother to the elder 2 children.  But media sources are now reporting that Debbie Rowe was only the surrogate.  Michael was also not the sperm donor.  The egg donor is completely unknown.  And the natural parents of his youngest child are also unknown.  This poses serious custodial problems for the children.
  • It is also being reported that Michael never legally or formally adopted his 3 children.  This could pose even more problems in the custody aspect.
  • Michael’s doctor, Dr. Murray, has said he will not attend the King of Pop’s funeral out of respect.  During a press conference yesterday, Al Sharpton and Joe Jackson announced that the funeral will be public and will not be at Neverland Ranch.
  • Everything is being moved out of Michael’s permanent home in L.A. by the family in order to keep others from coming in and taking things.

Deaths almost always pose several issues with estate and custody so all of this was somewhat expected.  But this is still just incredibly sad.

Michael Jackson’s Estate Updates

Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine has been granted temporary custody of Michael 3 children.  Katherine also filed papers to a Superior Court judge today to name her administrator of her late son’s estate so she can ensure the King of Pop’s three children are its beneficiaries.  Michael’s will has also surfaced, even though the courts believed there wasn’t a valid one available at the time of Katherine’s petition for custody as the Jacksons filed saying there was no valid will on record.

Supposedly there is a lot of legal drama as Londell McMillan has been working with Michael and the family for years as the legal representation.  They had no will for Michael.  But Michael allegedly re-hired his old lawyer John Branca 3 weeks ago.  Apparently John is the one with the will and the family has never seen or heard of it.  John is supposed to be filing it with the court today.

Joe Jackson and Michael’s lawyer Londell McMillan confirmed yesterday that the family indeed ordered a second autopsy.  And these pics of Michael’s last rehearsal at the Staples Center 2 days before he died have surfaced:

  • President Obama wrote a personal letter to the Jackson family expressing his condolences. He decided not to put out a public statement about the matter as he said a personal letter was more appropriate.

And several never-before-seen pictures of Michael Jackson and his kids in their home have surfaced.  They show a genuinely happy Michael as he spent time with his kids and staffers at birthday parties, costume parties, and just at home:

    Jackson Family Ties

In a rare decision by TIME, they are putting out a rushed mid-week special edition hitting stands Monday.  It will showcase the life and legacy of Michael Jackson and will pay special tribute.  The last time a mid week edition was done was after 9/11.

Michael Jackson’s 3 children have reportedly made it known that they want to live with their grandparents–particularly Katherine Jackson.  The Jackson family is adamant about keeping the children in their family as the children have no relationship with mother Debbie Rowe.  But since Debbie is indeed their natural mother, a custody battle is possible.

Michael’s body has been legally returned to the family’s possession and they are spending today planning his funeral arrangements.  Reportedly they are having a second autopsy conducted now as well.

Michael’s doctor Dr. Conrad Murray (above) from Vegas is being questioned by authorities as to what happened in Michael’s final moments as Dr. Murray was the only witness present.  The 50-date London concert promoters AEG reportedly put Murray on the payroll to be with Michael throughout the tour.  Murray had been treating Michael for the last 3 years and Michael told the promoters that “he trusted this man.”

Tyler Perry spoke on the radio yesterday morning about halting production on “Why Did I Get Married? 2″ once they learned of Michael’s death.  Janet hurriedly left the Atlanta set to travel to L.A. to be with her family.  Heartbreaking.

  • Don’t Stop The Music: Musical Tributes To Michael Jackson

  • Michael Jackson tribute track just put together by The Game, Diddy, Mario Winans, Polow Da Don, Boyz II Men, Chris Brown, and Usher. It’s called “Better On The Other Side".

  • BET Exec Stephen Hill says that this weekend’s awards will be heavily focused on Michael Jackson and his legacy:

“This will be a show heavy on Michael Jackson’s memory. I think what you’re going to find is that acceptance speeches for awards will have nothing to do about the artists themselves, but about the influence that Michael Jackson had on them,” Hill said Thursday in a phone interview from Los Angeles.

“A show like this takes a good six months to put together, so when something happens three days before, it’s going to be done fueled by emotions,” he said.

Hill said many of the celebrities who will appear on the show — including Beyonce, Wyclef Jean, Maxwell and Ne-Yo — contacted BET to see how they could help prepare a tribute.

“Within minutes after its happening, we had calls from different artists — all asking what can they do” and how could they pay tribute to Jackson, he said.

The NAACP issued the following statement in response to the death of Michael Jackson:

“Michael Jackson’s dedication to humanitarian issues, including helping to raise untold millions of dollars to alleviate poverty and hunger, showed us that he understood how to use his fame to advocate for equality and freedom worldwide. Michael’s compassion and vision for a better world, which he so clearly expressed in his music, will be part of his ongoing legacy,” stated NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous.

In the African American tradition of the great song and dance men Michael’s incomparable, talent and creativity influenced music, dance and culture for decades. His love of soul, rhythm and blues, and rock & roll, all performed with his innovative unique style captured the hearts and imagination of generations of fans.

“NAACP Image Award winning, international superstar, Michael Jackson was a musical artist rooted in the proud tradition of black American music. His career — from the working-class neighborhoods of Gary, Indiana, to the heights of the entertainment industry — is a classic example of the American Dream. Michael Jackson, and the talented Jackson family, represented pride and promise to generations of Americans and people around the globe,” concluded Jealous.

The coroner has reported that there is no indication of foul play. They cannot determine cause of death until toxicology reports come back.

    The AP reports:

Even world leaders weighed in. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called it “lamentable news,” though he criticized the media for giving it so much attention. Former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung, who had met Jackson, said: “We lost a hero of the world.”

Diana Ross: “I can’t stop crying, this is too sudden and shocking. I am unable to imagine this. My heart is hurting. I am in prayer for his kids and the family.”

Lil Wayne: “I personally can’t believe it,” Lil Wayne told MTV News. “But it’s more unfortunate for the world of music. … My love goes out to his family. … A sad day in history, not [just] music.”

Chris Brown: “Michael Jackson is the reason why I do music and why I am an entertainer. I am devastated by this great loss, and I will continue to be humbled and inspired by his legacy. At the same time, I feel so blessed to have been touched by his Music, his Dance, his Lyrics, and his Pure Genius. It is because of Michael’s yesterday that I am who I am today! My condolences to his family and friends around the world. Michael Jackson Rest in Peace and may your music and legacy forever reign on earth!

Britney Spears: “I was so excited to see his show in London. We were going to be on tour in Europe at the same time and I was going to fly in to see him. He has been an inspiration throughout my entire life and I’m devastated he’s gone!”

Ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley: Click here for her statement

Priscilla Presley: “I’m in shock, as I know everyone must be. What a tragic loss. My heartfelt thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time. I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible… This is such a massive loss on so many levels, words fail me.”

Michael’s sister Janet has just arrived to L.A. as she was in Atlanta filming “Why Did I Get Married? 2″. She has always appeared to be the closest sibling to Michael. And on that note, here’s one of my all time favorite vids/songs I love to listen to when I’m feeling stressed and frustrated:
