Scene and be Seen: Is There a Science to Dress Stylishly Written By: “MS V”
It seems we’re living in a world of instant, off the peg gratification, where it’s all too easy to buy imitations of designer styles wherever and whenever you shop. With everything looking increasingly homogenized, we’re all in danger of looking the same or are we?
The real style-savvy among us know that by customizing our outfits with individual pieces we can look unique and stand out from the crowd. By mixing and matching your favorite accessories it can allow you to create your own individual style. Great style looks casual and slightly irreverent, not forced or contrived. It should have a certain je ne sais quoi about it.
Now here’s a thought: Real fashionistas should forget about nicey-nicey collections, the bland reviews, the safe, unchallenging seasons when your expected to drift along happily thinking nothing too much about what your wearing. The style setters know and believe that it’s the ones that are trouble that we most remember. Collections that look all wrong in comparison to everything else that’s around but yet that make us judder with shock and uncertainty…and then miraculously, compel us all to cast off everything we believed in only yesterday.
Only exciting clothes count in fashion in the long run-clothes so powerful enough to shift how we see ourselves, while striking an external image that somehow looks and feels precisely right. But, like everything else even the most extreme and daring of styles can begin to look commonplace. But, really, who wants to play it safe? Not the fashionistas! And so the search is on for the very stylish amongst us for the striking and the singular. Our clothes represent our style signature weather you believe it or not. It should be beautiful, unorthodox and mentally provocative or why bother.
Style is so much about intentional near-misses and jarring mistakes. It’s about finding a new simplicity in some way, but without over intellectualizing it or making it some kind austere religious experience. So many of the clothes we all now consider staples have entered the world amid fusillades of critical abuse. Style like fashion needs change when it’s been tracking along safely for far too long and countless of way to many knock-offs and so, it’s the fashion rebels amongst us that always can identify time for change.
So is there really a science to dressing stylishly? I say yes! And the formula is not only to be sophisticated but to be an observant independent thinker. It’s being a leader, a daring trendsetter, but most of all, self confident. Being effortlessly stylish begins with impeccable grooming but it’s the confidence you must embrace to develop and grow into your own style opinion. So throw caution to the wind and start practicing having fun with your style and before you know it you’ll have perfected a style tailor made for you.
